Master Project

The Cloud

About The Cloud

This interactive installation was housed in the ESC Media Art Lab in Graz, Austria, showcasing individual projects from all students of the CMSI 2020 study program at FH Joanneum. Named the “Portfolio Machine,” it was collectively developed by Interaction Design students. The project aimed to uniquely showcase the study program and its students through state-of-the-art interactions.

The CMSI program launched amidst the exceptional circumstances of 2020, prompting online introductions and remote project collaborations instead of traditional in-person lectures. Overcoming physical distance posed a significant challenge, particularly in the creative field. However, we transcended this barrier by forging new connections in a virtual realm: Online.

The installation titled “The Cloud” symbolizes this non-physical space where we convened and collaborated.

Interactive Methodology

At the apex of the project stands a handmade cotton cloud. Interaction with this cloud incorporates UX/UI principles, HCI (Human-Computer Interaction), haptic design, and rigorous hard interaction methodologies, seamlessly bringing the data down to the touchscreen of the installation.

User Interface

The interface design is centered around a bespoke font and features a soothing palette of blue tones, drawing inspiration from the ethereal theme of the cloud installation. It incorporates UX/UI best practices, ensuring intuitive navigation and user-friendly interactions. Enhanced by principles of HCI (Human-Computer Interaction) and haptic design, the interface offers a tactile and engaging experience. Developed with a focus on software development, it seamlessly integrates advanced functionalities to complement the interactive nature of the installation.
